Markings:
signed and dated lower right: CH 1622
Condition:
framed: 29¾ by 23 in.; 75.6 by 58.4 cm. The canvas has an old relining and is stable. The paint layer has flattened somewhat, though the colors remain vivid. There is a thin varnish which has become slightly uneven over time and could be refreshed. The pattern of the canvas is visible in some of the shadowed areas where the paint has thinned, but it isn't distracting. Under ultraviolet light the uneven varnish is more evident and a few restorations flouresce, mostly along the edges but there are a couple of pinpoint retouchings in the figures. None of these are visible to the naked eye. The painting overall retains a bright tone and is offered in a carved wood frame.
